Carpometacarpal Dislocation

Abstract
Carpometacarpal dislocations of the hand, except those of thumb, is a rare one. Dislocation of these joints was first described by Blandin in _ 1844, which was a case of 3rd carpometacarpal dislocation. Since then, many authors reported these rare injuries. In 1948, Waugh and Yancey. described an excellent reviewing article with 82 cases, which were reported in literatures since 1844. Anatomically, -carpometacarpal joints are arthrodial diarthroses, which permit some gliding. But the motion is restricted by bony articulation with each other, by strong volar and dorsal carpometacarpal ligaments and. interosseous ligament. The -4th and 5th carpometacarpal joints permit more than those of 2nd and
Thus these joints are more susceptible to injuries. gliding 3rd. Author experienced a case of fracture dislocation of 4th and 5th carpometacarpal joint of right hand, which was reduced surgically and fixed with two Kerschiner wires to maintain the reduction until union.
